EMLA cream patches or cream (or magic cream as it is known in our house) can be administered on the inside of elbows exactly one hour prior to blood draw as this will numb the area and the child won't feel a thing. EMLA does not take away the psychological effects of having blood drawn though but bribary always helps my children. EMLA cream is available from all chemists and a box of 2 patches costs roughly $13.00.
